A RESOLUTION THANKING MAYFIELD VILLAGE POLICE
EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT TERRY SKOMROCK FOR OVER TWENTY-SIX YEARS
OF DEDICATION AND SERVICE AND CONGRATULATING HER ON HER RETIREMENT

WHEREAS, in 1986, Terry Skomrock was hired as Secretary for the Mayfield Village Police Department after being recruited from a neighboring police department, where she had worked for 12 years; and

WHEREAS, in 1995, upon demonstrating her skills as office manager, communications supervisor, and assistant to the police department’s various executive branches, Terry was promoted to the position of  Police Executive Assistant; and

WHEREAS, since 1996, Terry has been instrumental in increasing participation in the Suburban Police Anti-Crime Network (SPAN).  Her dedication to sharing information on criminal suspects, arrested individuals, photos of unknown suspects where identification was needed, etc. has increased the distribution list from approximately 32 detectives to over 560 law enforcement officers from local, state and federal government offices all over N/E Ohio and beyond; and

WHEREAS, Terry has received a number of commendations and awards:  In 2010, she received a Certificate of Recognition presented by the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of Homeland Security, Strategic Analysis and Information Center for her dedication to the protection and security of the citizens of Ohio and for her professionalism and leadership in the statewide information-sharing initiative through the Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO) Program;  in 2012, Terry received a similar award in appreciation of her support of Ohio Homeland Security and for promoting excellent information-sharing practices.  Her direct efforts have led to the identification, arrest and conviction of criminals all over N/E Ohio and beyond; and

WHEREAS, Terry has received several commendations from the Mayor and the Police Chief for her outstanding work with the Detective Bureau in a Public Indecency case, which led to the identification and conviction of the suspect; for her assistance with a call involving an emotionally-disturbed male; her actions during a severe storm which helped to restore order and enabled the police and fire departments to better respond to the extreme demands placed upon them during the disaster; and

WHEREAS, Terry has always been willing to take on additional responsibility, serving as Liaison to the Records Commission as well as to the State Auditor’s Office. Terry has always been passionate about her work in Mayfield Village and her efforts have gone a long way to enhancing the professional image of our police department.  Her willingness to volunteer her time with local civic organizations and charities, such as the American Red Cross Drive, Cancer Relay for Life, Women Safe House, Hospice, Crime Stoppers and several animal rescue groups have also greatly enhanced our community; and

WHEREAS, Terry Skomrock officially retired from the Mayfield Village Police Department on January 5, 2013 after 26 years of service here and 38 years as a civilian in law enforcement. 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT:

Terry Skomrock be and is hereby recognized for over twenty-six (26) years of dedicated and exceptional service to Mayfield Village.

SECTION 1.  The Village of Mayfield, its Mayor, Council, residents, employers, employees and officials wish to thank Terry Skomrock for her many years of dedicated service and congratulate her on her retirement. 

SECTION 2.  The Council finds and determines that all formal actions of the Council relating to the adoption of this Resolution have been taken at open meetings of this Council; and that deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in such formal action, took place in meetings open to the public in compliance with all statutory requirements including the requirements of Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code.

SECTION 3.  The Clerk of Council is hereby authorized and directed to prepare duplicate original copies of this Resolution.  One such original shall be presented to Terry Skomrock.  The other original shall be placed in the permanent records of the Village as a lasting tribute to Terry Skomrock.

SECTION 4. This resolution shall become effective upon its adoption by Council and the signature of the Mayor, or as may otherwise be provided by law.
