Present: Mr. Marrie

Also Present: Mr. Wynne, Chief Edelman, Acting Chief Girbino, Mr. Metzung, Mr. Dinardo, Ms. Wolgamuth and Mrs. Betsa

POLICE DEPARTMENT:

  • Replacement of MDT for PD unit #4640 (TAC Management Co.)

Chief Edelman stated, those are the Mobile Data Computers in the cars.  The ones we have now are reaching the end of their life span. We are beginning our replacement process.  We are going through TAC this time instead of buying a computer and then having them install the software on it.  We are having them do everything.  They will supply the computer.  Everything will be pre-installed by them.

Mr. Marrie asked, is the price per car?  Chief Edelman replied, yes.

Mr. Marrie asked, how often will you do this?  How will you regulate this?  Chief Edelman replied, the ones we have in the cars now lasted about 5 years. They take a lot of beating in the cars.

Mr. Marrie asked, will you try to do one or two a year?  Chief Edelman replied, I would like to get them all done this year, but I wanted to try one initially so we can see how the process goes with TAC doing everything and then next month or a couple months down the road, I will bring it back to Council.  But it will be 5 total.

Mr. Marrie asked, they are all pretty much the same age and in the same condition?  Chief Edelman replied, yes.  They are all the same age.

Mr. Marrie stated, this item will be passed on to Finance.

FIRE DEPARTMENT:

  • Hillcrest Mobile Air Unit and Tech Rescue Team contribution

Acting Chief Girbino reported, this is the annual contribution for the Hillcrest Mobile Air Unit which serves all the Hillcrest area fire departments.  If we have a major fire event, they will call that out.  It also helps with the Hillcrest Tech Rescue Team. All of the Hillcrest departments have personnel who are part of that team. They are specialized.

Mr. Marrie asked, explain the mobile air unit to me.  I don’t know if I have ever seen this unit.  Acting Chief Girbino replied, the chassis is our old 613, our old back-up engine. They have used that chassis all these years.  They put a custom box on the back.  Inside the box is a mobile air cascade system.  They have everything they need to fill all of our air bottles on a site from a house fire to a huge event.

Mr. Marrie asked, as the firemen need it, they can come up to the unit and it’s filled up and they go back in?  Acting Chief Girbino replied, it is kept in Mayfield Heights. They will assign at least one person to the unit no matter who calls for it.  That person will man the unit and fill bottles on the scene on an emergency.

Mr. Marrie asked, who calls the shot as to whether you need it or use it?  Acting Chief Girbino replied, the Incident Commander for whatever community it is.

Acting Chief Girbino added, this is an annual expenditure. There will be another $500 that will go on that soon for the Regional Fire Investigation Team. That is an annual expenditure as well.  It’s separate.

Mr. Marrie asked, any questions?  There were none.

PARKS & RECREATION:

  • Painting and Sandblasting of Parkview Pool

Mr. Metzung stated, Bill is handling this.  Mr. Wynne added, this is just to ask Council to go out to bid.  Mr. Metzung stated, it needs to be done.  A couple of years ago they painted it and it’s coming off.  It needs to be sandblasted and repainted.

Mr. Metzung continued, the other area he is going to be looking at is the area under the playground equipment. The rubberized material is failing.

Mr. Marrie asked, isn’t that the second batch we put in there?  Mr. Metzung is not sure if we rebid the whole thing or just topped it.  There are problems with it. That is being addressed. Some are saying repair and some are saying remove.

Mr. Marrie stated, okay, I will wait until he brings it up.

ANY OTHER MATTERS:

Mr. Marrie asked, any other comments or questions?

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:23 p.m.  The next Safety and Service meeting is scheduled for March 4, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in the Main Conference Room of the Mayfield Village Civic Center.

Respectfully submitted,
Mary E. Betsa, Clerk of Council
