Fire Hydrant Flushing
The Mayfield Village Fire Department will be kicking off our annual fire hydrant flushing and maintenance program beginning this week and continuing through the summer months until completed, weather permitting. Hydrant flushing and routine maintenance including lubrication is essential to ensure proper operation in the event of an emergency. Streets will be posted at least one day prior to flushing. Discoloration of the water during flushing operations is normal. Residents who notice discoloration should run their water for a short time to ensure it is free from the normal sediment that is sometimes present after flushing procedures. It is advisable to avoid laundering clothes when the crews are flushing. Fire hydrant painting will also be performed as needed during this period. Hydrants will be painted with a spray on finish and a reflective stripe applied once the paint has dried.
