Building Department FAQs

1157.06 ( e ).. The total number of accessory buildings and structures allowed on the rear  property is 2. The total area of an accessory building and structure is 800 square feet or 10% of the rear yard lot, whichever is less.

Fences must be at least 25% open space (board-on-board, chain link, etc.). The max height is dependent on the type and location (i.e. front, side, or rear lines). See Section 1157.08 of the P & Z Code.

Yes, if; it doesn’t exceed one-half tons in rated capacity, is parked in a closed or covered garage, or kept out of sight, and it must be used only by the resident.

The definitions in the code are if the vehicle is used for business, commercial, or manufacturing and has mounted equipment, signs, racks for ladders, tools, etc.

You will need to bring in six (6) sets of plans to go to the Architectural Review Board, along with photos of all sides of your house, a color scheme, and material samples such as siding, roofing, shutters, and brick colors. Once approved by the ARB, a building permit is issued after the plan is reviewed for code compliance.

Yes. A Certificate of Inspection is required if you have a Septic System. Contact the Cuyahoga County Board of Health for an Inspection @ 216-201-2001 x1231.  Section 1365.01 of the MV Codified Ordinances.

Police FAQs

The Police Department is open 24hours a day/7 days a week.
The Records Division is open Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm for copies of reports.

Any incident that requires an actual report must be done in person. If it is an incident that has occurred where you currently are and have not left the scene an officer will respond to your location within the Village. However an incident that is a late reported incident or you are no longer at the location of the incident we will ask you to come to the station to make your report. Of course there are exceptions in some cases. If in doubt call Dispatch at 440.461.1234.

Moving Violations are to be paid at Lyndhurst Municipal Court at 5301 Mayfield Road 44124. The phone number to the court is 440.461.6500. Also after hours, fines may be paid at Lyndhurst Police Station at the same address.

You will need to call Lyndhurst Municipal Court for the proper waiver amount. 440.461.6500 M-F 8am – 4pm.
You may also look up your fine on the Lyndhurst Municipal Court website http://www.lyndhurstmunicipalcourt.org/

We do now accept personal checks for payment of parking fines. Checks should be made out to Mayfield Village Police Department. It is wise not to send cash via mail to pay fines, however you may pay the parking fine in person with cash.

Mayfield Village Police Department has no control over power outages. In inclement weather the likeliness of a power outage is high. During these times the Police Dispatcher can be very busy handling emergency phone calls of accidents and alarms and other nature and in some instances are also dealing with power outage within the Police Station as well. We of course will continue to help in case of emergencies, and especially if you see power lines down. To report routine outages without any sign of power lines down you will need to call First Energy’s (Illuminating Company) automated outage line. You will need to give them your phone number that is associated with you electric account so they will know that your power is out. The phone number to report your power outage is 1.888.544.4877.

The Records Division at the Mayfield Village Police Department is open Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm. You should call first to find out if a report is complete and ready for distribution. You can come in and pick up a copy of the report during the above hours at a cost of 5 cents per page. If you can not make it during the posted hours you can call and request a copy that can be made ahead of time and it will be left for you to pick up and pay for with Dispatch. You can also request a copy of a report by sending a self addressed stamped envelope with your request.

Rubbish/Recycling is only affected if a major holiday falls on a Monday. If this occurs then rubbish/recyclables will be delayed one day. If holiday falls on a Tuesday regular rubbish/recyclables will be picked up on Monday as normal and Tuesdays will be picked up on Wednesday. Fireworks dates vary year to year; usually the Saturday nearest July 4th and can be seen from The Grove amphitheatre.

Second Saturday in June, rain date is the following Sunday.

Call 911 as soon as possible. If you are need of medical care let the dispatcher know right away. Stay on the line with the dispatcher until he or she tells you that you can hang up – they may ask you to hold while they send a police officer or rescue squad to your location. 

Residents FAQs

Mayfield Village offers curbside rubbish removal recycling services to residents free of charge. Currently, our trash hauler is Kimble Companies. Rubbish and recycling is picked up on Mondays and Tuesdays (click here for street list). HOLIDAYS THAT WILL AFFECT PICKUP include New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Christmas Day.  When a holiday falls on a Monday, the Monday collection will be on Tuesday and the Tuesday collection will be on Wednesday. When a holiday falls on Tuesday, there is no change for residents on the Monday route and the Tuesday collection will be on Wednesday.

Kimble provides each residence with a 64 gallon toter for recycling. Call Kimble Companies at 1.800.201.0005 for replacement if damaged. (Only one toter per household). At various times during the year, Mayfield Village participates in recycling round-ups sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District. Special items such as paints, pesticides, tires and computers can be dropped off by residents at the Service Dept. on designated dates. Look for notification about these events in the Voice of the Village and on the Village marquee at the corner of S.O.M. Center and Wilson Mills Roads. Unfortunately, curbside service is not currently available for apartment residents.

An ABITIBI paper recycling container is available in the parking lot at St. Bartholomew’s Church at 435 SOM Center Road and a recycling container for bottles and cans is located behind the Fire Station.

Containers containing motor oil may be dropped off at the Service Department at 610 SOM Center Road.  Please place the containers next to the large tank at the rear of the Service Building.

Contact First Energy at 1.800.589.3101. Be sure to report the exact location of the pole (address if possible).  Please note that repairs to street lights are made by First Energy and can take up to 10 days.

Please do not call emergency dispatchers. 9-1-1 is only to report emergencies. Call the Illuminating Company’s Automated Outage Reporting Line at 888.544.4877 to report the outage.

Complaints can be filed with the Public Utility Commission of Ohio (PUCO) by calling 800.686.7826 or log on PUCO’s website at http://www.puco.ohio.gov.

Council meets twice a month on Monday evenings at 7:00 p.m.  as scheduled at the Mayfield Village Civic Center, 6622 Wilson Mills Road, Mayfield Village, OH  44143. You can find the schedule for the current year here.

Contact the Cuyahoga County Sanitary Sewer Dept. at 216.443.8201. They will respond to determine if the main sewer line is functioning properly and if there is a blockage.

Call the Fire Department at 440.461.1208 to see if there is hydrant flushing going on in your area.  If not, call the Cleveland Division of Water trouble number at 216.664.3060.

The Village sponsors a Community Shred Day annually and hires a shredding company which sets up in the Civic Center parking lot.  Residents are permitted to bring up to five boxes/bags of personal paper for shredding.

All Mayfield Village residents vote in our Civic Center located at 6622 Wilson Mills Road.
