Mayfield Township Historical Society

The Mayfield Township Historical Society was formed in 1976 to preserve artifacts, documents and other materials pertaining to the original Mayfield Township that was established in 1819. The Township broke up in the 1920’s into the communities of Gates Mills, Highland Heights, Mayfield Heights, Mayfield Village and the eastern portion of Lyndhurst. The Historical Society gathers the history from all 4 of these communities.

The Bennett-VanCuren Historic House, built in 1847, at 606 SOM Center has 13 restored rooms that reflect the time periods from 1805-1930. Tours are Monday from 10:00 am-1:00 pm or by appointment by calling 440.461.0055. Donations for the tour are $3 adults, $1 children. The Mayfield Quilters meet here, there is an extensive local history research library, and the 3rd graders tour each spring.

Monthly Historical Meetings with interesting local speakers are held the second Wednesday of October, November, February, March, April, and May at the MV Community Room, 6621 Wilson Mills Road at 7:00 pm. Membership from January-December is $15 single, $25 family, $50 contributing, $500 lifetime.

We are seeking volunteers to help with curating, research, light garden/yard work, a docent, collecting current history and interviewing local residents, hospitality and baking cookies for meetings and so much more. Call if you can help us out.
