Wilson Mills/I-271 Bridge ReplacementWednesday, March 1, 2017
The Ohio Department of Transportation has selected J.D. Williamson Construction to perform the reconstruction of the I-271 local lanes over Wilson Mills Road in Mayfield Village. The project cost is over $8 million and it is expected to take approximately 7 months, from April through October 2017.
Beginning the week of April 10, traffic on I-271 will be condensed and transferred to the express lanes. Access to all ramps (both northbound and southbound) will remain open throughout the project.
Also during the week of April 10, removal of the outer bridges will take place at night (between the hours of 9:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.) Wilson Mills Road will be completely closed between those hours only.
Beginning the week of April 17, eastbound traffic on Wilson Mills will be limited to one lane under the bridge. This lane restriction is expected to last up to 60 days. Both lanes of westbound traffic on Wilson Mills will remain open except for temporary lane closures during non-peak hours.
Please remember that, as with all road projects, staying on schedule is extremely weather dependent. For updates, check the Village’s website or go directly to www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D12.
We appreciate your patience during this construction period and we
encourage you to use alternate routes when possible to avoid the area.
Because this project is being administered by the State of Ohio, Mayfield Village has limited ability to affect the schedule or the work of the contractor. If you have questions or concerns, please contact ODOT directly at 216.581.2100 or the Village at 440.461.2210 or email@example.com
Notice from ODOT (March 30th):
Traffic shifts on I-271 north and south at Wilson Mills Road for bridge construction begins April 5
GARFIELD HEIGHTS (Thursday, March 30, 2017) – Motorists that frequently travel I-271 between I-90 and U.S. 322 (Mayfield Road) should be alert for an upcoming traffic shift as crews perform bridge removal and replacement operations on the I-271 Local Lane bridges over Wilson Mills Road, in the Village of Mayfield and city of Highland Heights.
Beginning Saturday, April 1, crews will close lanes on I-271 north and southbound Express Lanes between I-90 and Mayfield Road from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in preparation for shifting traffic from the Local Lanes onto the Express Lanes. The same lane closures may also be necessary on Sunday, April 2 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to complete any remaining traffic shift preparation operations.
On Wednesday, April 5, all traffic on the I-271 north and southbound Local Lanes near Wilson Mills Road will be shifted onto the Express Lanes. Through traffic on the Express Lanes will be shifted to the left and through traffic from the Local Lanes will crossover into the Express Lanes. Four lanes will be maintained in each direction on the Express Lanes. Access will be maintained to all entrance and exit ramps at the I-271 and Wilson Mills Road interchange.
In order to maintain four lanes in each direction, lane widths will be reduced to 11’ and the speed limit will be reduced to 50 mph. Traffic will remain in this configuration through October 2017.
Beginning the week of April 10, crews will need to temporarily close Wilson Mills Road under I-271 during the overnight hours from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. in order to perform overhead bridge work. Motorists should be alert for message boards in the area indicating any upcoming overnight closures of Wilson Mills Road.
During the overnight Wilson Mills Road closures, motorists will be detoured via the following routes:
- Eastbound traffic will utilize I-271 south to Mayfield Road to I-271 northbound and exit at Wilson Mills Road.
- Westbound traffic will utilize I-271 north to I-90 east and exit at SR 91. Then enter I-90 west to I-271 south and exit at Wilson Mills Road.
