DRAINAGE & INFRASTRUCTURE
STORM WATER MANAGEMENT
Committee Meeting Minutes
May 22, 2014

The Drainage & Infrastructure Committee met on Monday, May 22, 2014 at 6:18 p.m. at the Mayfield Village Civic Hall.

Present: Nick Delguyd (Council Representative), Steve Jerome (Council Representative), Tom Marrie (Council Representative), Doug Metzung (Service Director), and Jerry Catalano (Resident Representative)

Absent: Tom Cappello (Engineer), Tom Marsalis (Resident Representative), and Susan Jerome (Committee Secretary)

Also in attendance were: Mr. & Mrs. Schreiber. Mrs. Horvath and son, Mr. Mackie, Mr. & Mrs. Batcheller, and Mr. Bill Buckholtz

Schreiber 925 Worton Park Drive

Doug Metzung, Service Director, Councilman Steve Jerome, and Engineer Tom Cappello, visited the property on April 29, 2014. It was evident that the water from the creek is causing problems. A barrier between the garage and creek appears to be the solution. Doug Metzung said there is some concern that forcing the water back through the shale may cause sink holes.

Ton Cappello, Engineer, will talk to I.A.Lewin and Associates (engineering firm hired by the Schriebers), and the representative from N.E.O.R.S.D. about the suggested creek wall being installed. The structure of the garage also needs to be corrected. Mr. and Mrs. Schrieber said they will take responsibility for that repair. Doug Metzung suggested the possibility of putting the garage above ground. More research would be needed for the best solution for repairing the garage.

Bill Buckholtz, Council Representative, reiterated that the project has the approval of the committee pending consensus of Tom Cappello, Engineer, N.E.O.R.S.D., and Issac Lewin, Engineer and estimates will be requested for the work.

Horvath 6483 Highland Rd.

Doug Metzung, Service Director, Councilman Steve Jerome, and Engineer Tom Cappello, visited the property on April 29, 2014. Doug Metzung explained that the best solution will be to reroute the drain, in front of the garage, and connect it to the storm sewer allowing gravity to move the water away from the house rather than a sump pump.

The committee authorized Doug Metzung to seek estimates for the work.

Rodriguez 6451 Derby Drive

Doug Metzung, Service Director, Councilman Steve Jerome, and Engineer Tom Cappello, visited the property on April 29, 2014. Doug Metzung explained that the structure of the culverts is deteriorating and that should be address. He has not seen any changes to the property or any further erosion of the land. Although this is not a D&I issue, Doug Metzung feels it is prudent to correct before further problems occur.

Mackie 6206 N. Woodlane

Doug Metzung, Service Director, Councilman Steve Jerome, and Engineer Tom Cappello, visited the property on April 29, 2014. Steve Jerome explained that the best solution is to add rocks to stabilize the land. The committee agreed to seek estimates for the work.

Batcheller 6784 Wilson Mills

Mrs. Batcheller explained that water, in the backyard, is moving closer to the house. Doug Metzung speculated that the tree roots may be stopping the flow of the water through the drain tile. It was suggested the committee look into it further to determine what may be causing the problem.

Walnut/Thornapple Culvert

Tom Marrie, Council Representative, would like to see the committee address the water problem that runs behind the properties on Walnut and Thornapple. Water is advancing close further up the residents properties. It is not known, precisely, who is throwing leaves, twigs, and other landscape debris in the culvert which is causing the back-up.

Representative Tom Marrie said he would like a letter sent to all the resident requesting that the dumping of debris cease.

Tom Cappello will begin a study of the properties to include grading.

The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
